Man Fashion: Spring Summer 2010 Collection

London Fashion Week finished on an extreme high with a day dedicated to menswear, diversity was the word on each fashionistas lips as Spring/Summer 2010 was translated into the male language.

James Long’s collection was inspired my quality street wrappers and depicted both function and protection. Trousers greatly resembling his inspiration strutted down the catwalk teamed with rather sexy gilt edged camouflage; leather and select pieces of knitwear bought the collection together and showed which seasons it was created for. While the collection didn’t scream wear ability it did show Long’s talent when it came to creating unique menswear, it wouldn’t suit the average male or situation but then again when was Fashion practical.

Christopher Shannon took what should always be wrong and made it fashionably right as he sent his models down the catwalk with dodgy tan lines, ‘fanny packs’ and the cardinal sin of socks with sandals.

Unlike other designers Shannon’s collection was based on wear ability, he struck a balance between street style and high fashion; he isn’t interested on being the name on everybody’s lips, he creates clothing for the ever growing niche market that has patented his distinctive designs. Overbearing yet chic prints and his love of luxe sportswear have clearly paved his way into the fashion elite. In his own words his inspiration for his S/S 10 line “Donk, clashing sportswear and bootleg prints”

Man Fashion: Burberry Spring 2009 Men's Collection

Christopher Bailey makes such perfect sense of his work for Burberry that all anyone could ever wish for would be his voice in your ear while you watch his shows. For his latest collection, he imagined the late artist/filmmaker Derek Jarman in his garden at Dungeness, a hardscrabble stretch of English seaside perched next to a nuclear reactor.

What's more, pieces from this men’s Burberry Prorsum Spring Summer 2009 pre-collection are available on the Burberry UK/Europe on-line store since early December 2008. Some of the key pre-collection outerwear pieces for every occasion such as trench coats in gabardine, cotton satin and jacquard for men are all available on-line.

Man Fashion: Michael Bastian's Spring 2009 Men's Collection

Once a year event, Spring 2009 Fashion Week just started few days ago. Michael Bastian has showed off his latest Spring 2009 Men's Collection. His first show provided an interesting opportunity to see the designer's own distillation of those multiple options.

Actually, it wasn't really a show, more a tight edit of 25 looks based around Bastian's latest American archetype. Focus on sporty short, bathing suits, and of course his signature freewheeling take on eveningwear, shawl-collared pink jacket, blue tux shirt, pale gray pinstriped pants.

Man Fashion: Valentino 2008 Spring/Summer Collection

For S/S 08 Valentino gives us fine tailoring with a relaxed vibe.

Tailored outfits gave a variety of work and leisure looks.

Double-breasted suits were paired with waistcoats and summer weight sweaters. The tailored looks were complete with pocket ties and neck scarves. The formality was tempered by models walking the runway without socks baring the ease and relaxation in the collection.

A range of tailored looks will effortlessly take a man from the office to the yatch and from day to evening.

A summer palette of whites, blues and pinks gave a fresh, crisp feel. The relaxed vibe was further enhanced as the runway turned into a cocktail party at the end of presentation.

Man Fashion: Lacoste 2008 Spring Collection

To mark Lacoste's 75th, creative director Christophe Lemaire took the path of least resistance, back to the label's Biarritz roots. People in that part of France are fond of an old, tennis-like ball game called Basque pelote. really have what it takes to update a classic. He opened the show with white blazers trimmed with red and black, especially the first all-white looks had an appropriately vintage feel, worn with Basque-red cummerbunds and espadrilles to underline the regional story.

Lacoste still means tennis, especially when the company's box at the U.S. Open was a fashion hot spot, but Christophe Lemaire has managed to extend the association with intimations of other leisurely pursuits. Lemaire can at least make his audience think summery thoughts.
